I'm a mid-westerner at
heart, but love to travel and am always stunned by the beauty
of nature. My husband and I have been married for 40 years and
still love being together, particularly fly fishing in
beautiful Colorado, Montana or Argentina. The surrounding
streams, forests and mountains are marvelous, and we have a
heck of a good time stalking and catching rainbow trout. I
also find that art, architecture, theatre and music expand the
mind, - as does a book or a baby grandchild smiling his or her
first smile!. Life is good and we are indeed fortunate!
In kindergarten I remember
drawing a red bird with crayon, and filling up the page with
the bird and the color red. Wow. Love at first sight! My
oldest sister, Evelyn, was a total inspiration, and my love of
the abstract - and many other things about art - is due to her
influence.
By study with various teachers
when the opportunity was available. I remember that when a
teacher in New York taught me about negative space, I saw
everything in negative space for the next few days. What a
revelation! Currently, I'm in a class with Donna Aldridge, a
reknown Kansas City pastel artist. I am learning so much from
her, but also from the other artists in class, by watching how
they approach their subject matter or solve color and
composition issues.
I love energy - and brightness.
This influences my composition (I work fast) and selection of
color (give me reds, greens, blues, yellows and purples to
start with!) Abstract anything is fun for me, but I also do a
lot of close-on representational or almost realistic
interpretation. Drawing with pencil or charcoal is greatly
absorbing; almost like meditating. I have also worked with
acrylics in the past, but now have gravitated toward pastels
because they combine quick line with brilliant color. It's
been fun! |
